Experience Through Their Eyes

We had a public access issue with our group of 7 Service Dogs and 8 people, including 2 combat veterans, on Sunday, Feb 18th. I had spoken with the staff on Friday, Feb 16th about our group coming in as a courtesy heads up and it unfortunately was not communicated properly. When we walked in, we were greeted by a dog in the corner who immediately began barking at our Service Dogs. This dog was clearly not a service Dog by its behavior and the owner was doing nothing to stop the dog from barking at our Service Dogs. The manager on duty approached our party and when one of our combat veterans told him how many humans and Service Dogs were in our group, he demanded to see our "paperwork". That fired up one of our other combat veterans because not only is it illegal to ask for "paperwork" per the ADA, but the dog that was in the corner barking at us was still barking and was still not being asked to leave. I told them we had already spoken to staff prior and we went to sit down. The dog in the corner (Old English Sheepdog) was still barking. We all sat down and the dog and owner were still inside by the bar. One of our party got up to use the restroom, and as they went to, and came back from the restroom, this set off the dog barking repeatedly. The barking from this dog went on for almost 10 minutes - that is entirely too long for a dog to be allowed to leave. This dog wasn't a Service Dog and no one was claiming it to be a Service Dog, which means by the staff allowing it to be inside their food establishment, they were knowingly breaking health code laws. The manager on duty, Jordan, did come over after the barking dog left and apologized to our party and allowed one of the people in our group to give him some information on what he is legally allowed to ask a person with a Service Dog. He was also informed on what his rights are as a business regarding Service Dogs, and saw that all 7 dogs were tucked underneath the table and chairs quietly, not sniffing the ground, not jumping up trying to eat food, etc. He was told that was what he should expect to see from a Service Dog and if they are doing anything disruptive to the business (like barking, peeing, etc), they can be legally asked to leave. Jordan the manager was very apologetic and while the visit there started out rough, it ended pleasantly. Of course, the food there was delicious as always, and our waitress was on top of checking on us frequently. I still highly recommend this place, and hope they are willing to continue to educate themselves on Service Dogs and their handler rights, as well as their business rights and responsibilities regarding Service Dogs in the future.

Alpine Pizza never fails. Been coming here over 15 years. I’ve never been disappointed. The sausage was tasty, the mushrooms and sauce were fresh and the crust is the best. Plus you can’t beat the ambience and people watching on the patio. Oh, and my pizza was on the table within 10 minutes

We made this a quick stop in Flagstaff and it was amazing. First of all it was extremely family friendly and amazing customer service. Their french dip was full of flavor and amazing. Their pizza was delicious definitely one of the best pizzas we have had. Great selection of drinks and very reasonably priced.

Alpine has been in downtown Flag since the 70’s. The food and portions for the price can’t be beat. Love sitting outside on the small covered patio.

New owner in process of getting installed and he’s great! My family arrived for dinner too late to do sit-down but seeing the kids (both under 5) were hungry he offered to help us out. He earned the hearty tip we gave for the generosity and kindness. Down to earth guy and a hard worker, we had a fun conversation. Food is always spot-on. We’ll be back to hang out with Joshua again and enjoy the pizza. Alpine Pizza is going to be a Flagstaff staple under his leadership.
